Providing Supplies for School

Each year the Little Hands Big Hearts mission fills and distributes more than 100 backpacks to needy children in the Trujillo area.  Children going to school must provide their own supplies, thus many children are not able to attend school.  With help from you and Little Hands Big Hearts, some of these children will be able to continue their schooling with a backpack filled with supplies!

The school year in Honduras runs from mid-February to mid-November so the supplies usually go down each fall with several mission teams to be on hand for filling backpacks in early February.  Each year, we encourage you to shop school supply sales in July and August and then send the supplies to a designated location for packing and transporting to Honduras.  Please contact us to find out where to send supplies.  Supplies to be sent with mission teams must be received well in advance of their leaving the USA, so please do not delay contacting us if you are trying to intercept a team with your donations.

If you wish to donate money to purchase backpacks and spiral notebooks in Honduras, you may send a donation by February 1 (click here for our Donations page).   If you have questions about donations for school supplies (or for any purpose for LHBH), please use the Contact Us form to send a message.

Here is a list of typical supplies provided for the children.  Note that some items, like books, do not work well or fare poorly in the Honduran weather and living conditions of the families served by LHBH.  If you have ideas for something you would like to contribute that is not on this list, please contact us first to ask whether or not it might be useful.
