Monthly Update (July 2015) from Little Hands in Honduras by Mark and Brenda Young

We are thrilled that Yefrin and Maybelline will be coming to the U.S. next month, but we must still raise about $6,000 to cover their travel expenses for the three months they will be here. If you, your family, your church, or other group would like to help bring them to the U.S. to share how God is working through the Little Hands mission, please send a check payable to LHBH and mail to 11575 SW Pacific Hwy, #156, Portland, OR 97223. All funds must be in by August 17. We are finalizing their travel schedule across the country so if you would like to be on their visit list, please let Mark know via email at trujillohearts@yahoo.com.

Last weekend was the annual meeting of the LHBH Foundation board of directors. A total of 18 members were present at the meeting where one of the highlights was honoring us for our 20 years of services to the Little Hands ministry. We were moved with the many kind comments and blessed to receive a wonderful coffee table book made specifically for us with decades of photos chronicling the hundreds of people who have made LH the wonderful mission it is today. The board also elected Kelly Eldred of Phoenix, AZ as the new chair and Ken Vielmette of Beaverton, OR as the new secretary. Dr. Ben White of Macon, GA; Dr. Amber Figueroa Arnold of Wenatchee, WA; and Brenda Young of Vancouver, WA were each honored for their 12 years of dedicated service to the Foundation and the Little Hands mission. Dr. Katie Wilson of Tyler, TX was welcomed as a new member. Among the many reports were ones by Tabitha Vielmette, who is on a 6-week physical therapy internship in Trujillo and Ashleigh Hess who is presently teaching English to Yefrin and Maybelline in preparation for their trip to the U.S. Please be in prayer for these two young ladies who are serving in Trujillo this summer.

Many thanks go to the Inland Valley Church of Ontario, CA for their donation of $1,500 to build a house for little Isabel and her disabled mother, Yesica, in barrio Capiro. We are grateful for this church that has stepped forward many times to assist the mission in meaningful ways. This special fund raising effort was spearheaded by Erica Estrada and her daughter, Maya. We also wish to thank the joint mission team from the Summit View Church in Yakima, WA and the Pacific Crest Church in Wenatchee, WA for their hard work to build the house in June. This is a wonderful example of how several churches and many individuals can come together to do good for someone less fortunate. Yesica and Isabel were tearfully grateful for their new home.

The 11-member Medical Brigade will be going on July 25 to serve in Trujillo. This team will conduct four rural medical clinics and serve around 700 patients. Team members come from 5 states and will rendezvous in Houston to travel together to Trujillo. Pray for this team to be effective in addressing the holistic needs of the many medically-underserved Hondurans.

In closing, we ask that you be in prayer for the 6th annual Maraton de Amor held in Trujillo on August 15. The Fundación Manos Chicas, our Honduran NGO, sponsors this special community awareness and fund raising event each year. Yefrin, Maybelline, and the staff put lots of time and effort to make this event a success. The Little Hands children are put front and center in the community to show that “special needs” children can do much with the love and help of others. In the love of Christ, Mark and Brenda
