Monthly Update (May 2015) from Little Hands in Honduras by Mark and Brenda Young

Yes, you heard correctly, Yefrin and Maybelline Rodriguez, our Honduran directors, received tourist visas to come to the U.S. in the fall. Praise the Lord for blessing all of their preparations. We are very excited about them making this trip for the sake of the Little Hands mission. Those of us who are fortunate enough to work and serve in Trujillo know how much Yefrin and Maybelline mean to this ministry of love. Now, everyone in the U.S. will have that opportunity to hear them talk about their passion and love for what we do at Little Hands. They will be here August 27 to November 27, Lord willing and we successfully raise the money to get them here.

Last year we set as a target the goal of raising $16,000 to cover their travel expenses, visa expenses, airfare, fuel, lodging, meals, etc. and launched a campaign to raise this money. We have a wonderful Christian couple who made us a challenge – raise $8,000 and they would match it with another $8.000. Praise God for these generous hearts! So far, we have raised just $2,000….. so our “challenge” is this – we must raise another $6,000 before Yefrin and Maybelline can come this fall. Can you, your family, your church, your Ladies Bible class, your men’s ministry, or any other group contribute to help bring them to the U.S.? Questions, call Mark at (509) 480-1993 or email.

We believe that there are people, teen groups, churches, and others who will be blessed by having this wonderful Christian couple speak to them, but the challenge is getting them to the U.S. and then around the country on what we’ve dubbed the “Journey across America”. We are presently setting up speaking engagements at churches, schools, and other venues for them. Perhaps your group would like to have them speak about how God is using the Little Hands ministry to touch the lives of others for Jesus. Let us know if you would like to have Yefrin and Maybelline come speak to your group.

We have two mission teams making final preparations to visit Little Hands this summer. We ask that you keep these groups in your prayers – the14-member joint team from the Summit View Church (Yakima, WA) and the Pacific Crest Church (Wenatchee, WA) will arrive in Honduras on June 19 and the 12-member Medical Brigade will be there from July 26 to August 8. These visiting mission teams make wonderful contributions to the work and service we provide at Little Hands. May their trips be safe and a blessing to both those they serve and those who go.

Now for a quick update on some of the Little Hands children – both Kenner and Maybelline had surgeries recently to correct their club feet. They are in casts now so pray for them that they will recover and be able to walk, jump, and run like other children. Little Sofia is still awaiting her second surgery as the doctors think she needs to be a bit older and stronger to withstand the stress of her operation. People have asked about little Yefrin who had anal surgery last fall. He is doing better but his family has moved away from the Trujillo area so we don’t know too much about his present condition. Johnny, now 15 years old, had a good report from his most recent cardiologist visit in Teguc. He will be helping the medical brigade when we conduct the rural health clinic in Guadalupe Carney, his home barrio. It is such an encouragement to see this young man who was so weak and frail 13 years ago, now be so helpful and compassionate toward others. José Ricardo is much improved after his hospitalization and near death episode last spring. His loving parents are so grateful for the help and prayers provided them by Little Hands. Thanks for remembering all of the children and the ministry in your prayers. It is only with God’s grace and guidance that we are able to “share the love of Jesus” with these needy children and their families.

Yours in Christian love and appreciation, Mark and Brenda
