Last month we had a first-time mission group from the Leander Church of Christ in Texas. This 12-member team of teens and adults came ready to serve the Little Hands mission. They worked on two projects – one, a pila (water cistern) for Isabel’s family and two, another pila and a room addition for a new little boy with club feet named Kenner. They also painted the interior of the Misión del Caribe church building and worked with the Trujillo teens in painting at the Limonal church building. The group had a cookout, soccer game, and devotional at the beach with the Trujillo teens and then observed two baptisms in a torrential rainstorm. The group also taught Sunday School classes at two of our five churches as well as the neighborhood Bible classes at Little Hands. Brenda and our friends, Jim and Nancy Fennell, accompanied this group.

With this group we were also blessed to have the entire Vielmette family from Beaverton, Oregon. This wonderful family has been LH ministry partners since 2002. Ken, Shannon, Nathan, Tabitha, Joshua, and Joanna have blessed this ministry in many ways over the years through their contributions, matching corporate gifts, prayers, and now through their service at the Family Development Center. Ken drove and was in charge of projects, Shannon helped in the kitchen and with the children, Nathan reached out to the teens, Tabitha taught a well-received ladies Bible class, Joshua played with the kids, and Joanna taught the children how to make rubber band bracelets. We are blessed to have Ken and Shannon on the Little Hands board of directors. This trip they served as “gringos in charge”, a position we created a couple years ago as a liaison role between visiting groups and the Little Hands staff.

Our new evangelist Reinaldo has been outstanding in his efforts to reach out to our Little Hands families and the community. He and Yefrin have a weekly devotional at the local police station. He also has several Bible studies in the neighborhood with families interested in learning more about the Lord. He has begun classes with many of our Little Hands families and their neighbors. Keep Reinaldo and his work in your prayers as we move forward. We are still seeking $100 in monthly support for Reinaldo so if you or your church would be interested in supporting his evangelistic work, please let us know.

Brenda was able to visit our nurse, Blanca, in Roatan to get an update on her advanced nurses training. Her training is supported by a third grant received from the Ezell Foundation of Nashville. Blanca will complete her six months in September. She is learning many new protocols to assist children with some of the more common ailments found in Honduras. She is well respected and loved by the patients and staff there at the Clinica Esperanza. Blanca provided Brenda a tour of the clinic and found everyone very appreciative of Blanca’s knowledge and friendly outgoing personality. We look forward to having Blanca back in Trujillo soon to help us launch the new Health Center next year at LHBH.

In closing, thanks for your prayers for José Ricardo and Isabel who continue to improve from their surgeries. Also keep Kenner in your prayers as we are trying to schedule club feet surgery. As always, we solicit your prayers and help. You may send donations to Little Hands, Big Hearts, 11575 SW Pacific Hwy, #156, Portland, OR 97223 or make an online contribution via Pay Pal from the Little Hands website at We are blessed to have so many fellow workers in this ministry of love to “special needs” children. In the love of Christ, Mark and Brenda
